Week 3 Cady - Saturnine
Saturnine:
(adj) cold and steady in mood, slow to act or change, of a gloomy or surly disposition, having a sardonic aspect
“It was not, however, so saturnine a pride!” (Bronte 261). This is from the book, Jane Eyre.
I chose this word for week 3 because it has an intriguing origin. It quite literally means "born under the influence of the planet Saturn" in Middle English. People originally thought that characteristics like being cold and gloomy were caused by the astrological influence of Saturn.
