Week 5 Hoag- "ostentatious"
(adj.) attracting or seeking to attract attention, admiration, or envy often by gaudiness or obviousness; overly elaborate or conspicuous
"Bob pulls the cover off his coffee machine and with an ostentatious air of martyrdom begins to make her an Americano, just as she likes it" (Moyes 231)
I found this word in the book I've been reading titled The Last Letter from Your Lover by Jojo Moyes. I chose this word because it sounds like a big or elegant word, but it really it means trying to gain attention. I found it interesting how when I read the word I thought it sounded or looked like what someone using the word could be trying to get, attention or admiration for being so elegant.
